My first kiln

This week I got to set up my kiln! I have been waiting eagerly to get it put together and my house in Lake Preston, South Dakota was finally at the point that I could get the kiln set up. It took some assistance from my all around handy contractor but the kiln is now on the stand and secured and ready to operate.

I cannot wait to season the kiln and play with some glass in order to learn how it heats and all of its nuances. Per my fearless mentor each kiln is unique and he recommended I do some seasoning and test firing prior to putting in one of my art pieces. That way I am less likely to ruin a piece I care about and put a lot of effort into (although he said after doing stained and art glass his whole adult life he still has surprises).

After I do some playing with the kiln I will likely do some simple fused glass Christmas ornaments or something like that so I have less time & effort invested as I am beginning my kiln firing journey.
