Cranberry Irid Platter

I got a beautiful piece of Bullseye cranberry Iridescent glass at Sioux Falls Glassworks. I was nervous to use it as I didn’t want to lose the beautiful iridescent shine on the glass.

I started by cutting the cranberry irid down to 12” X 12”. Then I cut a clear glass piece to the same dimensions. I layered the glass with cranberry irid (irid side up), clear glass frit powder (to mitigate bubbles between the glass), and the clear glass piece on top. I then did a full fuse to create one solid piece of glass. I was happy with the result as the irid was left intact and showed through beautifully.

I then prepared my mold with kiln wash so I could slump the glass and make it into a platter.

Finally I slumped the glass in the kiln and the result was a beautiful platter with blue & gold iridescence.

Layered the glass and did a full fuse to get the irid to shine through.

Used my favorite platter mold to slump the glass.

The finished platter turned out so pretty! Hard to do it justice in pictures..
